The Significance Of Independence Day

Happy Independence Day!

As one of the biggest national American holidays, the 4th of July is celebrated with so much joy throughout the whole country. It is a time to spend with your closest loved ones, and have a great time with your family and friends. It is a holiday about bringing each other together and sharing the joy between us. It’s a reminder of how far we have come.

Because in the beginning, there wasn’t an amazing country that was full of wonders and diversity. There were only thirteen British colonies that came over, searching for a chance to build a better life. All they had was hope for a better tomorrow. With their effort, they started building our beloved country. However, they didn’t have freedom – not yet.

They were still considered a part of Britain, and as such, they had to pay taxes. As the demands of the British grew, and the taxes increased, so has the flames in our ancestor’s souls. They wanted to break free, to have something of their own. Although at first, they didn’t ask for their independence, the revolution was set in motion with one of our founding fathers in charge – George Washington.

If freedom of speech is taken away, then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter.
— George Washington

After a few years of war between the thirteen colonies and the British, the thirteen colonies demanded their independence. They understood that, as long as they remained under the British, even if they didn’t pay taxes, they would never be truly free. So, the war waged on.

On July 4th, 1776 the previously presented Declaration Of Independence was officially validated and accepted by the British.

And here we are, today three hundred years later still celebrating this holiday. It’s edged deep into our tradition and identity because it teaches us that no matter how small we are, and unlikely to win unless we try we will never know. The 4th of July is every American pride, a celebration of the biggest victory we obtained in our history – freedom, and independence.

Happy Independence Day!!!
