The life and Career of Rapper Black Rob

Black Rob, a rapper known for his 2000 hit “Whoa!” along with his affiliation

with P. Diddy’s Bad Boy Records passed away. He was 52 years old. TMZ together with Black Rob’s fellow MCs DJ Self and Mark Curry took to social media platforms to back it up.


Black Rob was a talented rapper who began his career by appearing on albums such as

the Cru’s Da Dirty 30, along with collaborating with fellow artists such as Lil Kim, Busta Rhymes, L.O.X, and Total.

 After several successful collaborations, Rob went ahead to release his debut album, Life Story, in early months of 2000.


Rob’s debut album featured his hit single “Whoa!” with appearances from Cheryl Riley, L.O.X, Carl Thomas, the Goodie Mob’s and Cee-Lo. Even though the album managed to go platinum, it wasn’t until 2004 that Rob’s materials appeared, mostly premiering on several mix-tapes.

It was in 1996 that Black Rob got involved with Bad Boy label, appearing on 112’s remix “Come See Me.

He would remain with the Bad Boy until 2010, when Rob exited and signed with Down Duck Records. He eventually went ahead to form his own recording label, Box and One, alongside Jemal Mosley.


In 2005, Rob’s proper follow-up, The Black Rob Report,

was successfully released by Bad Boy. Black Rob had several run-ins with the law, a move that saw him spending some time behind bars.

A short time after releasing The Black Rob Reports, Rob was arrested in 2006 following a hotel robbery and went ahead to serve several years behind bars.

Upon his release, he went ahead to release another album, Game Tested Streets Approved but this time, with the Duck Down label.

In 2013, Rob released another album, Life Story 2, the same year that the he co-starred in a reality TV series the Comeback Kings. His style of music was mostly East Coast Rap, Hardcore Rap, and Gangsta Rap.

Two years later in 2015, he released what was his final album, Genuine Article. Before then, his career stalled for some time over a couple of legal struggles.

Even though Black Rob featured throughout his musical career on several albums, many people know Black Rob for his 2000 hit single, “Whoa”, which managed to reach number 43 on the Billboard Hot 100.

A few weeks before his death, in a short video, Black Rob revealed that he is suffering from a number of ailments over the last five years.

Black Rob died in Atlanta on April 17, 2021 as a result of cardiac arrest at 52 years of age.

Black Rob is survived by four children named Rianna, Kayli, Diamond, and Million.
