What is a Vegan?
One of the most popular concepts as a way of life lately is definitely veganism. Veganism has been around for about 80 years, and yet it’s a more massive occurrence in today’s way of life. Is veganism the next stage of our evolutionary process? Or is it just a trend that will pass by? Do people really need meat and animal products in order to survive? The answer to all these questions lies in the term itself.
What is Veganism?
Veganism is a term whose beginning dates in 1944. Vegetarianism has been a concept that has been flourishing and more and more people were becoming vegetarians. But, as vegetarianism grew, so did veganism. A small group of vegetarians felt they were different since they didn’t consume any products from animals. And so they renamed themselves vegans and began their new way of life. Veganism started to grow and now it’s known as a way of life that excludes any animal cruelty.
Why go Vegan?
Well, there are several reasons for changing your lifestyle and becoming a vegan. Most people do it for ethical reasons. Each creature on this planet has its own soul and every soul has its right to life and freedom. And the way of slaughtering animals and exploiting them has become just another cog in the mass production process of meat and animal products, is certainly anything but ethical.
Some other reasons include health benefits and environmental impact. Turning vegan can help in various heart diseases and reduce the chance of type 2 diabetes as well as lowering the chances of developing Alzheimer's.
Either way, veganism has its own benefits, both health-wise and conscience-wise.
