Bob Marley was a poor country boy who grew up from the ghettos of Kingston, but rose to become a global pop star, a political icon, and a spokesperson for the oppressed of the third world. Bob Marley died young of cancer at the age of 36. Even as of today, Marley’s messages speak of charity and the fight for human rights.

Up to today, Bob Marley is still considered as a symbol of Jamaican identity and culture,
and for many people of the Third World, Bob Marley was a spokesperson and one of the most important identification figures.

After his toe got some infection, doctors informed him that he was suffering from melanoma, a form of skin cancer that required leg amputation. However, Marley didn’t want to undergo surgery or have his leg amputated. By then, there was no treatment for cancer, with doctors telling him to carry on with his life as usual. However, on May 11th, 1981, Bob Marley lost his fight against cancer.
